Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province – August 3, 2025
Representatives from the Catholic Diocese of Ubon Ratchathani and Caritas Thailand, accompanied by members of the Camillians and CADIS, carried out an emergency mission to assist villagers affected by recent border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia. Led by Father Man together with Father Phairat Sriprasert, the National Director of Caritas Thailand, and the delegation, visited the conflict-affected communities at the border to provide relief, encouragement, and moral support.
Nong Rung Village
Nong Rung, located 30–40 kilometers from the Thai-Cambodian border, was struck by bombs during the conflict, forcing residents to evacuate to safer areas such as Bangkok, Pattaya, and nearby provinces.
Although a ceasefire has since been agreed upon, only a portion of the villagers have returned. Many families remain hesitant, choosing to wait for further stability before going back.
During the visit, the delegation met with residents, distributed financial aid and essential supplies, and offered words of encouragement. Notably, Nong Rung is home to a Camillian religious who has been ordained as deacon on August 9.

War Evacuation Center
The team also visited the War Evacuation Center at the Kut Salao Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Kantharalak District. This temporary shelter had initially housed 570 displaced persons from villages in the conflict zone. At present, around 300 evacuees remain, primarily elderly people, women, and children. Most men have returned to their villages to safeguard their homes and livestock.
Conversations with evacuees revealed that, despite displacement, they are living under adequate conditions. The center provides proper sleeping arrangements, food, medicine, and continuous care. Nevertheless, the residents expressed their longing for peace and their desire to return home once the situation fully stabilizes.
A Mission of Hope
The mission underscored the Church’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities during times of crisis. Through the presence of clergy and lay workers, the delegation sought not only to provide material relief but also to strengthen the spirit of those affected.
As Father Ning, representing the Camillian Disaster Service International (CADIS Thailand), affirmed: “We came to be with the people, to listen, and to share their burdens. Our hope is that peace will endure, and families can soon return to their homes in safety.”
