From April 21 to 23, CADIS Thailand began the first delivery of relief goods (food and non-food) to the population affected by the earthquake in Ban Klang, Mae Jae district, Roi Koh province, Myanmar. The team distributed 350 packages of relief goods (instant noodles, canned goods, cooking oil, basic medicines) and 100 sacks of rice.
It took several hours by car from the Thai border to the Ban Klang area, a mountainous region.
Ban Klang has a population of about 5,000 people representing various ethnic groups, including Shan, Karen, and Burmese. Historically, frequent clashes have occurred in this area between ethnic groups and military forces. Residents have often been affected by the ongoing civil war between the revolutionary group and the military junta government. When armed conflict broke out in 2003, with Burmese soldiers invading and looting properties, many villagers fled to Thailand. Temporary shelters were set up along the Thai side. CADIS Thailand provided assistance and food to the population.
Originally, the target groups were identified among the survivors of the recent earthquake who took refuge in this place. However, the team also encountered refugees from minority ethnic groups fleeing civil unrest. Most of them have experienced multiple displacements and are constantly seeking long-term stability and peace.

Already familiar with the area, CADIS Thailand immediately focused on the emergency initiative. About 200 families belonging to ethnic groups such as the Karen, Shan, and Burmese received support.
The team, composed of fourteen (14) Camillians and volunteers, after the intervention made an assessment of the community's urgent needs, experiences, and feelings after the earthquake.
A strong sense of insecurity and lack of shelter caused by the earthquake emerged, as well as fear and constant preparation for evacuation and the search for safety.
In reality, they feel a strong desire for food and peace, waiting for assistance and support, as that area is hardly reached by humanitarian aid.
CADIS Thailand collaborated with major government agencies and civil society organizations, such as Caritas Thailand, the Social Ministry of the Diocese of Chiang Mai, Thai Cooperation (COERR), the International Rescue Committee, and the Christian organization of Singapore.
CADIS is still organizing other missions, particularly to deliver additional emergency equipment and provide solar panels or other sources of electricity, since the area is currently without electricity. An Indian medical team is also waiting for the green light from the Myanmar government.
The need is great and we ask for your support to organize aid for the earthquake survivors. Support the CADIS International Emergency Fund. Send your help to
