Eighteen participants attended this five-day trainers training on Mental Wellbeing and Psychosocial Support given by CADIS staff in Nepal led by Fr. Biju Sebastian, MI and Mr. Sebastian TV, the program coordinator. This training is in collaboration with Koshish, an NGO based in Nepal. Koshish focuses on psychosocial support services in Nepal and is collaborating with the national government and several other INGOs to create awareness among stakeholders about the need for psychosocial support and provide psychosocial support. They have their counselors posted at Dhulikhal Hospital Psychiatric Ward to provide counseling support.
It has been learned also that the government of Nepal has developed a mental health policy which will be announced soon. A key aspect of the policy is to make 10 types of drugs available at Health Posts to treat psychiatric cases. An OPD for Psychiatric care has been set up at Bahrabise Public Health Centre in Sindhupalchok.
The training commenced on October 30 and will end on November 3, 2017. The training is held at Dhulikhel, Kavrepalanchok.
During the training, the participants are expected to present verbatim reports of their visits to the different wards assigned to them since last year. This will enhance their skills in psychosocial support intervention.
