The first-ever World Day of the Poor an initiative of the Holy See will be celebrated on November 19, 2017. According to one of the Vatican officials, that this is not only an opportunity to grow in mercy and charity toward the poor and needy, but to shape our attitude toward them on a daily basis.

This celebration is basically founded on the following thoughts: a) "the notion of reciprocity, of sharing with each other of what each other has, b) an understanding that each of us is poor in some way, and that we need to empty ourselves of certain things so that God’s grace can fill us, and c) that “there’s so much we can learn from those who are poor as we try to provide”, as Monsignor Geno Sylva told CNA in an interview.
