India, Thailand, and the Philippines are experiencing dramatic weeks of unprecedented heavy rains, which, together with the monsoon, have caused floods and landslides impacting millions of people. Climate experts have called this the “new normal” of climate change.
It is well known that Southeast Asia is one of the areas most at risk of natural disasters, but in recent years the situation has worsened to the point that extreme weather events never leave these lands.
CADIS Thailand, CTF India, and CTF Philippines have been working in the field for years to respond promptly to emergencies. And that is what is happening these days.
The various teams of professionals and volunteers are already operational with rescue operations, but the support of CADIS donors is essential to assist the affected population, which is why the emergency fund is always active.
We remind you that there are several ways to support CADIS International:

INDIA
In response to the recent and devastating floods that have affected the regions of Vijayawada and Khammam, the Camillian Task Force (CTF) has launched an intervention to support the affected communities. The floods, caused by excessive rains, have caused widespread destruction, displacement of families, and severe damage to property and infrastructure. Many people have lost their homes and livelihoods and urgent assistance is needed to restore normalcy.
The CTF team, under the guidance of Fr. Madhu V. Babu, conducted an initial assessment of the flood-affected areas to better understand the extent of the damage and identify the immediate needs of the communities. The team visited several places, including the office of the Bishop of Vijayawada, the director of the Social Service Center, and several parish stations, to collaborate and discuss the most effective ways to provide relief and support to the affected families.
Among the team members who participated in this assessment are Fr. Christopher, Fr. Shiju, and Fr. Sikendra, all committed to bringing help and compassion to people suffering because of the floods.
CTF warmly invites you to share your support in any way possible to help these communities recover. Your prayers, resources, and assistance will be of great help in bringing hope and relief to those in need. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of families affected by the flood.
Let us remain united in this time of crisis and extend our hands in service to those who are suffering.
THAILAND
On September 10, 2024, CADIS Thailand and the Camillians went to the Khun Yum district, Mae Hong Son Province, to help families affected by the flood and the subsequent landslide. Many villages were severely affected and are difficult to reach, and many families have been displaced. Fr. Santi and Fr. Charoen are taking care of 10-20 villages each. 100 sets of livelihood envelopes were delivered, containing rice, canned food, and money for the most urgent needs, as well as medicines, blankets, and more. Thanks to the Camillian Sisters for donating drinking water, thanks to Sister Amante della Croce CHANTHABURI for the medicines, and to all the volunteers who helped.
It is difficult to reach all the villages, which is why we appeal to your generosity to help the survivors. May God bless you all.
PHILIPPINES
The Camillian Task Force Philippines responded immediately due to Typhoon Yagi (Enteng) and the heavy monsoon rains (Habitat) that hit Central-Southern Luzon and the National Capital Region.
With the heavy rains and major flooding even in the area of the Camillian Mission in Cainta Rizal, the Camillian Task Force Philippines continues to care for the most vulnerable.
Community volunteers are ready to distribute food, medicine, and hot meals to displaced families.
September 2-3, 2024: More than 403 families were reached, especially those living near rivers who were displaced due to severe flooding and destroyed homes. Children and the sick were also housed in the evacuation facilities of our Church, to keep them safe and dry due to the inclement weather.
September 6-7: in collaboration with the women volunteers of Taugamma, relief packages were prepared for displaced families affected by the floods and rains.
These relief packages are symbols of hope and joy coming from people who want to send a message that you are not alone in this situation of torment and despair.
They were distributed to 150 families in Cainta, Taytay Rizal.
September 8-9: The Camillian Task Force Philippines reaches displaced families in Pililia, Rizal, especially those whose homes were hit by landslides and overflowing rivers.
We managed to reach about 108 families and feed them with hot meals, especially the children who are still in evacuation centers.
We thank Taugamma Rizal for their continued assistance and collaboration.
