Intervention of the Camillian Task Force (CTF) India in Moreh, Manipur

CTF India intervenes to help the population of Manipur, a place of ethnic clashes on the border with Myanmar.

May 4, 2024

Moreh is a city in the Tengnoupal district of Manipur, India, located on the border with Myanmar. It is a bustling commercial center thanks to its strategic position for cross-border trade. However, like many border towns, it has experienced community tensions and occasional riots, often stemming from ethnic and political differences. These conflicts have caused suffering for residents, disrupting daily life and causing economic hardship. Efforts to address these issues generally involve dialogue between communities, increased security measures, and initiatives aimed at promoting harmony among the different groups.

Amidst the tensions between Maiteis and Kukis in Moreh, the Camillian Task Force - CTF, in collaboration with the Diocese of Inphal, the MC Sisters, and CHAI KA, is launching a crucial intervention with the start of its medical relief program today.

The initiative aims to provide the necessary medical assistance to affected communities, offering relief to those suffering from injuries, trauma, and health problems caused by the recent clashes. The program represents a fundamental step not only in responding to immediate medical needs, but also in promoting goodwill and cooperation among the city's different groups. It underscores the importance of humanitarian efforts in times of conflict and serves as a beacon of hope for peace and reconciliation in Moreh.

Crossing several checkpoints and navigating the hills can add a bit of adventure to the journey.

Before setting out, we received precise directions and guides, and now we are bringing with us a pick-up stocked with medicines and relief materials
